A-Z Animals reached out to me as an expert on equine trauma for an article exploring whether horses can develop PTSD. I shared insights from my work with rescued horses at my non-profit Sin Miedo Foundation and explained how a healthy herd becomes the first step toward healing.

About this article
A-Z Animals contacted me alongside other experts to explore how trauma manifests in horses. It's a topic I care deeply about because many of the horses I work with at Sin Miedo have been rescued from difficult situations.
What I shared
I explained that trauma in horses shows up through behavioral changes, just like in humans. Horses with a trauma history often fail to thrive. They can have a bad coat, a weak digestive system, or allergic outbreaks. I also talked about how we approach healing: first with a healthy herd as a safe container, then by gently addressing triggers, and finally through sessions where horses learn to trust again alongside our clients.
Why this matters
We often talk about how horses help humans heal. But horses need healing too. This article shines a light on that reality. When we take care of the herd, the herd takes care of us.
